One of the most common complaints about a bathroom is that there is not enough space. Although most bathrooms have enough square footage to not feel small, the existing space is used incorrectly. Whether it is a large built-in and never used jetted tub, oversized vanity cabinet with little usable storage or useless walls built to accommodate standard size fiberglass insert showers –we’ve seen it all. Your bathroom should be a place where you can relax and unwind, while retaining full functionality with plenty of storage. Here are a few questions to ponder while you dream of your future bathroom:

• Do you use your existing bathtub or do you prefer a shower?
• Who uses the space and what are their needs?
• Do you need more storage space?
• Would you rather have more counter space or his/her sinks?
• What features would you like to add to your new bathroom?
• Would you like to have more light or maybe more electrical outlets?

When starting to select your bathroom materials, ask yourself what style would you like your bathroom to reflect. Would you like a traditional bathroom with claw foot tub, or modern bathroom with large walk-in shower? We recommend looking at pictures of bathroom on the internet to select the styles and features you want in your bathroom.

The most commonly used shower materials are tile and Onyx. Tile can have a timeless look and an infinite number of design options. Onyx has a more uniform look, and requires virtually no maintenance. Today’s shower can include all sorts of plumbing fixtures like body jets, multiple shower heads and hand showers. Shower can also include a seat that, depending on the size of the shower, can be built as a bench seat, corner seat or a folding bench. Do you need to consider ADA accessibility options? We can build a curbless entry shower in both tile and Onyx that allows an unobstructed access for wheelchairs.

Tubs can be optional in the master bathroom. But if you like a good soak, consider using one of the new free standing tubs that take up less space than traditional built in Jacuzzi style tubs. If you like bubble baths, an air tub, that emits warm air from the bottom of the tub which vibrate the water to create a soothing sensation is a good alternative to the traditional whirlpool tub.

Separate toilet rooms inside the master bathroom allow for additional privacy, especially if the space is used by more than one person at a time. Good ventilation and lighting are a key in a small closed off space.

Insufficient storage in the bathroom is the most common complaint we hear during consultations. Consider adding a vanity cabinet with ample drawer space, linen cabinet for towel storage and a medicine cabinet for the smaller items that seem to clutter your countertop.
